day two hundred and thirty two, nubar pink flame

another oldie, but goodie from nubar! pink flame is a beautiful pink/orange shimmery duochrome. i do love duochromes, i don't think anyone does them like nubar. even though this is a really pretty polish...i rarely wear it. i always assume it's too pink for my tastes...and while it is definitely on the borderline...i must admit i'm surprised by how much i like it each time i wear it!

someone recently asked me if there is a particular science to which hand i will use when swatching...the short answer is no. the long answer is 'whichever hand looks better after cleanup!'

day two hundred and nine, nubar purple rain glitter

i must say...when nubar do glitter...they certainly do it up proper! these images came out way blue toned and it's a lifelong struggle to get purple to capture accurately on film!!! anyway, this one is GORGEOUS. it's an oldie, called 'purple rain glitter' (and of course...my mind goes immediately to Prince!) and it's a gorgeous royal purple with silver AND holographic glitter densely packed in. the purple base is a bit on the jelly side (in order to let the glitter not get drowned by opaque polish) but it is easily buildable and opaque in 2 coats (but i always do 3!). this polish is prismatic on your fingers...it's just like wearing anything from OPI Designer Series or China Glaze Kaleidoscope but glitter instead of shimmer! man. i loooove purple! it is one of my favourite colours of all time and this one is a MUST OWN in any purple/glitter lover's stash!

day one hundred and forty six, nubar iris dust opi movin' out

okay people this was suppoed to be an image heavy post but blogger aren't cooperating! nubar iris dust is another fantastic duochrome from the smarties at nubar, its a purple/orange duochrome and the effect is magnificent. i had an interview today so i wanted something subtle and decided to try a new shade (well...i've had this for a couple years i just haven't worn it yet) for my interview instead of going with a trusted fav (any of the ones i've mentioned!). i originally planned on just painting opi "movin' out" (after the AMAZING billy joel song...i think!) but it is a clear jelly with pink microglitter suspended throughout...because of the clear base i couldn't leave it on my nails alone since you could see how stained and yellow my nails are through the polish so i put on 3 layers of nubar iris dust followed by 1 more layer of movin out to give it some extra shimmer. the cool thing about movin out is that because it is a clear base it allows the microglitter to reflect whatever colour the nubar polish is reflecting. i thought it was really awesome and so i took a video just to demonstrate how much i loved the sparkle!! it definitely reminds me of one of the new CND effect polishes (the opi).

day one hundred and thirty eight, nubar moon shadow

okay. today is image heavy, so prepare yourselves!!! i've been neglecting the amazing colours nubar has to offer in favour of the going green collection that i keep raving about..but they have some fantastic original colours not part of that collection! this one, moon shadow, is a great example. it's a tri-chrome i guess (since it's got 3 colours and not 2 [which would make it a duochrome!]). it is purple, golden brown and kind of pinky hazel all at the same time depending on the light. the purple is actually a really strong purple and i couldn't capture it for the life of me. the closest i came was when i held the camera far away and let the flash do the work. it is a super eye catching combination, not only is it really pretty but it's so interesting to watch the colour change depending on which way you hold your hands or look at your fingers. it's like wearing all these different polishes at one time...except it's all one bottle! i do love nubar and feel like they've been kind of neglected lately, it's been ages since i've shown one and i feel bad about it. there are so many amazing polish brands and it is really hard to give them all equal weighting on my blog!

day one hundred and twenty two, nubar forest

you know i think this is the only straight up nubar creme i own. the rest are all duochromes or shimmers or glitters. this is another from the ridiculously amazing 'going green' collection called forest, the only creme of the 6. it's a really awesome medium green, great pigmentation...just a very nice green. i don't have that much to say about it because it is kind of the quintessential green. when i think of the colour green i mostly think of this colour. it works great as a nail polish and makes my green obsessed self (true story: my bat mitzvah 'colours' were green and purple!) quite pleased. i am still also super excited with konad-ing...i am in love with the cow print pattern showcased below (stamped using China Glaze Awakening). i definitely need to do a traditional black spots on a white background manicure because it's awesome. and who doesn't love cows?

day one hundred and one, nubar pasadena purple

so today i thought i'd try to show something from nubar that ISN'T from the going green collection (i know..i'm obsessed with it!). pasadena purple (which makes me laugh because i grew up in los angeles and this colour doesn't remind me of pasadena at all!) is an awesome electric purple, incredibly bright and vivid. so of course...i couldn't capture it for the life of me. purples seem to be troublesome to capture accurately. the second picture most accurately portays the brightness and the flashed out picture is closest for the colour. it's an awesome, awesome shade. i'm still not sure how ready i am to delve back into the magical world of purple from my earlier 'purpled-out' mood but i am certainly dipping my toes! i think this is the first nubar colour i own (and have swatched for this blog) that is just one colour. usually they are strong shimmers, holos and duochromes. i only own ONE nubar creme (which i have yet to wear ever) and it's nice to see something from them besides what I know them for...best (talk about awkward sentence structure...but i couldn't end a sentence in 'for'. it makes my english degree angry!)

day ninety six, nubar sour candy

sour candy reminds me a lot of the new china glaze glitters except that it is wayyyyy more jelly the china glaze glitters (seem -- don't actually own any...yet!). this is about as opaque as it gets...it's better for layering over polish than on its own. but it glitters in a gorgeous way! it's a turquoise jelly and it has circle sized glitter amongst the mini glitter. the circles catch the light and are almost little mirror reflectors.

they (nubar) have a pink version of this called sugar, a yellow-ish version called golden glow.
